i-TFC™ Luminous II Dental Material Range Launches

Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. (Tokyo: 4183; President & CEO: HASHIMOTO Osamu) today announced that its subsidiary SUN MEDICAL CO., LTD. (Head Office: Moriyama, Shiga; President & CEO: NAKAJIMA Yoshiyuki) launched sales of the i-TFC™ Luminous II dental material range on August 21, 2024. The new product range taps into a three-way business partnership with SHOFU INC. (Tokyo: 7979; President & COO: TAKAMI Tetsuo), with which Mitsui Chemicals has a capital tie-up.

Consisting of post-and-core^*1 materials for use in dentistry, this range employs a low-polymerization-shrinkage monomer developed by Mitsui Chemicals. The monomer enables polymerization shrinkage to be reduced by around 28 percent compared with SUN MEDICAL's existing products, thereby improving adhesion to the treatment site. The new range incorporates a product that also contains the S-PRG™ filler^*2 employed in the Giomer™^*3 range, one of SHOFU's mainstay products. The launch marks the first time that products uniting the three companies' unique technologies have been brought to market.

*1 A restoration technique used to fill spaces where a tooth is missing and a crown therefore cannot be fitted, in which an artificial support is used for the tooth.

*2 *3 S-PRG™ filler releases fluoride and five other ions, and is reported to demonstrate acid-neutralizing properties.
