Homecoming is just around the corner, promising a spirited celebration of community and UC San Diego pride. From Nov. 8-10, the entire campus community is invited to reconnect in a weekend filled with unforgettable opportunities-from exploring the wonders of marine life to hearing from experts at an inaugural research symposium.

For 2024, the university is highlighting five signature events that showcase the Triton spirit through an exciting mix of immersive experiences and traditional favorites. For the first time, the Homecoming festivities will revolve around a basketball home weekend, inviting Tritons to cheer on the men's basketball team in their Division I home opener against Pepperdine on Nov. 9.

"This year's Homecoming is particularly special as we celebrate a new chapter for UC San Diego Athletics with our teams now eligible for DI post-season play," said Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla. "Homecoming has always been a time for our Triton community to come together, and this year we have even more reason to celebrate. Whether you're reconnecting with old friends, discovering groundbreaking research at the inaugural Curiosity Ignited symposium or cheering on our teams, there's something for everyone to enjoy as we unite in Triton spirit and create lasting memories together."

Diving into Division I

The Triton men's basketball team is gearing up for an electrifying season as they build on the momentum from last year. In 2023-24, the team secured 20 wins, finished second in The Big West and earned the second seed in the College Basketball Invitational. Now eligible for DI post-season play, the UC San Diego community is invited to come together to celebrate this milestone, marking the university's continued ascent in collegiate sports.

"Last season, our men's basketball team was extremely competitive. Throughout the reclassification period to Division I, our athletes and coaches wanted to put their best foot forward-regardless of the circumstances," said UC San Diego Director of Athletics Earl Edwards. "For us to be that competitive so soon for both men's basketball and baseball winning The Big West in just three years is a remarkable achievement."

At the Nov. 9 game, 3,000 free white T-shirts will be given away as part of a special "whiteout" theme, transforming LionTree Arena into a sea of Triton pride. Before tip-off, the campus community is invited to the annual Triton Tailgate, featuring food, lawn games and entertainment to build excitement for the big game.

As UC San Diego Athletics enters this exciting era, the support of the Triton community is more crucial than ever. "The community plays a part in our success in a number of ways: by attending athletic events which are exciting and fun, creating a true home court advantage; philanthropically as far as support for scholarships; and through corporate sponsorships for their business," said Edwards.
