Stantec, a global leader in sustainable design and engineering, has appointed Kip Skabar and Maxwell (Max) Mozo as its new sector leaders for Ports and Marine Terminals (PMT) in Canada and the United States. Both Skabar and Mozo will be integral to growing Stantec's Ports and Marine Terminals business and presence across North America and helping the firm to achieve its short- and long-term growth goals in this sector.
Kip Skabar-Ports and Marine Terminals Sector Leader, Canada
Skabar has more than 20 years of industry experience and has been with Stantec for over 17 years, working across Canada and the US. He is a strong business developer and has led multidisciplinary technical teams to deliver major projects under both conventional design-bid-build and alternative procurement delivery models. These projects include container terminals, shipyards, piers/wharves, liquefied natural gas facilities, small craft harbors, retaining structures, highway interchanges, terminal buildings, and railway grade separations. Most recently, Skabar was appointed to the board as one of the Directors of the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies British Columbia (ACEC-BC).
Max Mozo-Ports and Marine Terminals Sector Leader, United States
With more than 30 years of experience, Mozo is a practicing structural engineer who has focused his career on the ports and marine industry. He most recently served as the US East regional market leader for ports and maritime for Jacobs, where he was responsible for leading business development and implementing growth strategy across the region. He also served as the global principal for Jacobs' marine passenger terminals practice and led the market strategy for the company's cruise and ferry business.

Stantec sees substantial growth opportunities across both Canada and the United States within the ports and marine terminal sector, specifically within Canadian and US defense ports, decarbonization, logistics hubs, and supply chain resiliency. Recently, the firm's Ports and Marine Terminals sector was ranked 8th within Engineering News-Record's Top 500 designfirms, being recognized for its master planning, project management, design, geotechnical engineering, sustainability, and resiliency services. The appointment of Skabar and Mozo will help the firm in its efforts to expand these services across North America.
Stantec served as the owner's engineer for the Roberts Bank Terminal 2 at the Port of Vancouver which received Government of Canada approval in 2023, and provided multidisciplinary engineering, port planning, terminal building architecture, surveying/geomatics, and sustainability expertise. The Port of Vancouver is the world's third largest port in terms of total cargo moved and currently trades with over 170 world economies and is contributing over US$9.7 billion in gross domestic product. Stantec also provided site remediation, drainage improvements, paving, runways, and rail extension design for Port Tampa Bay in Florida, Florida's largest and most diverse seaport. Stantec's Ports and Marine Terminal team also designed two major structurally independent facilities for the Port of Sept-Îles in Quebec, which included the design of the Port's main wharf and the approach bridge. This project allowed for the creation of new shipping infrastructure to raise the Port's shipping capacity to 70 million tons a year, an increase of 50 million tons per year.
