Positive West Nile Test

MURPHY, Texas (June 21, 2024) - The City of Murphy, in cooperation with the Texas Department of State Health Services, performs routine tests for West Nile by collecting mosquitos and sending them for evaluation.

One of the traps collected on June 14th tested positive. The trap was located in the creek bed along Lonesome Dove Trail. No human infections are reported at this time.

We are in contact with pest control services and will schedule a spray for the area as soon as possible, weather permitting.

The best way to prevent West Nile is to protect yourself from mosquito bites. Use insect repellent, wear long-sleeved shirts and pants, treat clothing and gear, and take steps to control mosquitoes indoors and outdoors.

Residents who may suspect being infected should immediately report it to their doctor or medical facility.

When spraying information becomes available, it will be posted to our social media and website.
