Driver Killed In Crash Wednesday On Murfreesboro Pike

The driver of the Ford Transit van killed in Wednesday's 4:20 p.m. crash on Murfreesboro Pike near Mt. View Road has been identified as Walter Guillermo Hidalgo-Gonzalez, 41, of LaVergne. The preliminary investigation indicates an outbound Honda Civic crossed the center turning lane and struck the Ford van head-on.

Hidalgo-Gonzalez was transported to Southern Hills Medical Center where he died.

The driver of the Honda, Fredy Hernandez Escalante, 18, was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Upon his release from the hospital, Escalante will be charged for driving without a license or insurance.

There were no signs of impairment on the part of either driver.
