Manos Salteñas | Hands of Salta: Innovation and Tradition in the Argentine Northwest

In a strategic alliance to empower communities through culture and education, UNESCO and Alwaleed Philanthropies support the School of Entrepreneurs of the Municipality of Salta, a UNESCO Learning City, to advance the initiative "Manos Salteñas | Hands of Salta - Meaningful Business with History". This initiative aims to revitalize the region's ancestral knowledge as a source of innovation and job opportunities.

Located in the Argentine Northwest, Salta stands out for its rich cultural heritage. "Hands of Salta" supports enhancing entrepreneurial skills of the local population, especially among the most vulnerable, promoting their labour insertion and sustainable socioeconomic development. The initiative seeks to preserve and promote the ancestral techniques of indigenous peoples, combining them with new technologies to improve the profitability and visibility of regional products and generate employment opportunities for the community.

This project is part of a global initiative of good practices in entrepreneurship, aiming to motivate other cities to support their entrepreneurs and reconnect with their cultural roots. Among the direct beneficiaries will be women, young people, people with disabilities and members of indigenous communities.

The activities will take place over six months, with a high point at the end of the year, featuring a series of workshops and master classes on traditional techniques in spinning, weaving, looms, and red pottery.

This series is designed to enhance entrepreneurial skills and professional competencies for successful economic and cultural practice in these traditional crafts, strategically positioning the School of Entrepreneurs of the Municipality of Salta as a reference in leadership and good practices at both the national, regional and international levels, for which the support of UNESCO and Alwaleed Philanthropies is fundamental.

With "Manos Salteñas | Hands of Salta", Salta aims to be an example of how innovation and tradition can come together to promote inclusive and sustainable development for its citizens.
