PGE employees dedicate over 4,000 hours to summer volunteer efforts in the community

Sept. 16, 2024

As longstanding partners to a number of community-based organizations across Oregon, Portland General Electric is excited to wrap up another successful summer of volunteering. Between May 1 and Sept. 1, more than 400 PGE employees volunteered a total of 4,327 hours, participating in community clean-up events with organizations like SOLVE, tabling at events such as the PNW Lineman Rodeo and the Touch-a-Truck event with Randall Children's Hospital, and attending festivals like Fiesta Mexicana and the Pride Parade at the Portland Waterfront.

"I was fortunate enough to participate in the PGE-sponsored Portland Pride Parade with my 20-year-old child," said John Peterson, PGE senior cybersecurity operations analyst. "Not only was it a memorable and fun-filled day, but also an important event to be supportive of our community and its values. These opportunities and many others are why I started working for PGE in 2023 and recommend them as an employer to my family and friends."

For many other employees like Peterson, volunteering goes beyond just giving time, it's an opportunity to educate customers about the company's programs and resources while reinforcing their commitment to the communities they serve. PGE recognizes that providing safe, affordable and reliable energy is only one part of its commitment to customers. Building strong relationships is key to understanding and addressing customers' unique needs, helping to create a more equitable clean energy future for all.

PGE's Community Impact:

Thanks to employee volunteers and fundraising efforts through the summer, organizations like In4All also have the means to provide dozens of STEM kits to underserved youth, offering them valuable hands-on learning opportunities in the classroom. Project Lemonade , which supports foster youth, has received over 400 items to help students in need as they prepare for the new school year. Additionally, K-12 students in Estacada are starting the year with about $700 worth of new school supplies, provided through PGE's West Side Hydro's 3rd Annual Back to School Supply Drive.

"These kids are the future," said Juli Aldous, PGE senior administrative assistant. "PGE has always been a part of our community here in Estacada, and so many great PGE employees grew up here. I believe helping students in this small way is truly making a huge difference in their lives."
