New Dining Options Include Fresh-Fruit Smoothies and Acai Bowls

A fresh fruit smoothie and acai bowl concept in Thompson Student Union is new for Rockets this fall semester.

Open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Smoothie Lab will feature vegetarian, vegan and dairy-free items as well as options for those avoiding gluten. Smoothie Lab will replace Fujisan Sushi in the Thompson Student Union food court. Students will still be able to enjoy fresh sushi at The Market @ Student Union and Market @ Ottawa East.

"Smoothies and acai bowls ranked among the top five dining options students requested in our fall and spring surveys and focus groups, so we are excited to offer this new on-trend concept," said Aaron Skees, director of marketing for Rocket Dining.

Delicious Without, the allergen-friendly station located in the Ottawa House East Food Hall, will be expanded to include a sister location in the Thompson Student Union food court with a daily rotation of menu items free of the top nine allergens. The original Delicious Without station in Ottawa House East remains open.

"In our effort to continue to make safe and healthy allergen-friendly options more accessible to students, we identified an opportunity to bring another Delicious Without station to the Student Union for lunch, reducing the commute for those students with allergies and intolerances who rely on it," Skees said.

Also new is the expanded menu for Chick-fil-A in Thompson Student Union, including mac and cheese and a kale crunch salad.

And coming later this fall is Transact Mobile Ordering, a new way for students to order, pay for and pick up food on the go. Replacing Boost, Transact Mobile offers a more seamless and elegant user experience, including exciting loyalty features that reward students for purchasing through digital punch cards, points earning and free item rewards.

To provide additional resources for the new operations in Thompson Student Union, Rocket Hall Cafe in Rocket Hall will be closed.
