A wedding at the Wilma Chan Highland Hospital Campus

Santos and Aleyda were married in their hospital room at Alameda Health System's (AHS) Wilma Chan Highland Hospital Campus (WCHHC) on Saturday, August 10th. Their son, friends, nurses and hospital staff attended. AHS Chaplain Reverand Betty Clark officiated the ceremony.

Santos and Aleyda hoped to host a large wedding and party this Summer, but their plans were dashed when Santos was shot seven times during a robbery in Oakland. He has been at the WCHHC since, recovering slowly but surely.

Hospital staff donated a wedding cake and flowers to the celebration. The couple requested the song Despacito to accompany their nuptials, which their nurse played on her phone.

Santos said he kept proposing to Aleyda until she finally gave in and accepted.

The couple's plans for the future are "all the good things in life," Aleyda said.
