New School Year, Renewed Spirit

MNEA's Back-to-School Celebrations Spark Excitement

Missouri NEA locals have been hosting back-to-school events across the state as local unions welcome teachers and students back for the 2024-2025 school year. MNEA President Phil Murray and Vice President Rebeka McIntosh have traveled throughout Missouri to introduce themselves to members and support local affiliates.

"Traveling across Missouri to meet our dedicated educators and support our local unions has been incredibly inspiring," says Phil Murray, MNEA president. "Each visit reminds me of the passion and commitment our members bring to fostering strong public schools. Collaborating face-to-face with educators allows us to strengthen our collective voice and better advocate for the needs of our students and communities."

Back-to-school events provide local affiliates an opportunity to welcome MNEA members and inform newly hired educators about the benefits of MNEA membership and the local affiliate's advocacy efforts.

Local leaders tailor back-to-school events to their respective districts, often combining fun activities, MNEA-branded school supplies, and meals with important information for educators.

It's amazing to see each local infuse its own enthusiasm and creativity into these gatherings," says McIntosh. "Engaging with educators who are just starting their careers, alongside reconnecting with longtime members, creates a wonderful sense of community and excitement as we look forward to the year ahead.

This year, local leaders have noticed an increased interest among members and potential members in MNEA's initiatives.

"Traveling the state to meet educators, answer their questions, and welcome them to MNEA is one of the best parts of the job," Murray adds. "Sharing how MNEA can help them grow professionally reinforces the great work our members do every day."

MNEA offers assistance in planning local events, providing materials to enhance association visibility and opportunities to invite MNEA state leaders as guest speakers. To elevate your next event, contact your UniServ director or reach out to Lauren at [email protected] or (573) 644-9606.

Local affiliate back-to-school events across the state feature MNEA informational booths, opportunities to share questions and concerns, time to meet new school employees and reconnect with colleagues, engaging activities, food, and plenty of enthusiasm.
