Energy UK responds to latest Ofgem price cap announcement

Responding to Ofgem's latest price cap announcement, Energy UK's chief executive Dhara Vyas said:

"Another increase in the price cap will be unwelcome news for customers, many of whom are already struggling to afford their bills - which is shown by the current record amount of debt.

"Energy suppliers have been stepping up the help they provide to customers this winter with £500m of extra support available - and we strongly encourage people who are struggling with bills to get in touch with their supplier and see what help is available.

"The way to keep bills down and reduce our dependence on a volatile wholesale market is to continue developing our own sources of domestic clean energy while also making more of our homes and businesses energy efficient.

"But we also know that many customers will continue to struggle with paying for the energy that they need to use. It remains as important as ever that we can better target support for those who need it the most on a lasting basis rather than through ad hoc interventions. It was therefore very welcome this week to see the Government committing to work with the industry on developing a longer-term solution."
