RSU’s Student Theatre Organization to Present ‘The Sandman’ Oct. 31 to Nov. 2

[Link]Musical theater returns to the Hill this Halloween with a darkly comedic musical entitled "The Sandman."

Presented by members of RSU's Student Theater Organization, "The Sandman: A Little Nightmare Musical" will be presented nightly Oct. 31 through Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. in Baird Hall's performance studio on the Claremore campus.

According to cast members William Inhoff and Sophie Rodgers, the musical is adapted from the writings of E.T.A. Hofmann, author of "The Nutcracker," and is a darker, nightmarishly musical take on the Sandman from European folklore.

"It's definitely a darker musical, something along the lines of a 'Sweeney Todd' for example, but one that's a lot of fun and perfect for the (Halloween) season," Rodgers said. "There's no objectionable or adult language, but it does deal with some darker themes and there's a bit of stage violence involved, so it may be inappropriate for younger children or those who are more sensitive."

In "The Sandman," when the family of an ingenious German clockmaker engages a new nanny to care for the children, a series of bizarre and unnatural events begins to unfold. As the Strauss family is thrust ever deeper into chaos, the sinister forces at play are revealed - forces from which only the children may be able to save them.

"The Sandman: A Little Nightmare Musical" has two acts and a run time of around two hours.

The music is by Richard Oberacker. Books and lyrics are by Robert Taylor and Richard Oberacker. This production is sponsored by RSU's Student Government Association, BancFirst and the Will Rogers Memorial Museum.

Tickets are $7 and will be sold at the door. Cash only.

RSU's Student Theater Organization is comprised of Rogers State University students who take an interest in theatre, whether it be in sound, lighting, set design, costume design, acting or playwriting.
