Tampa Solid Waste Begins Storm Debris Collection Post Hurricane Helene

The City of Tampa Solid Waste Department will begin collection of storm debris on Monday, September 30, 2024. Storm debris will include vegetative, household items and construction debris created due to the damaging effects of Hurricane Helene. Residents that are ready for collection immediately may request collection by calling the City of Tampa Solid Waste Call Center at 813-274-8811. For customers requiring additional time for assessment and removal of vegetative-storm debris, and damaged household items, the official collection will begin on Monday, October 7, 2024. As of this date, call in requests will not be required. Crews will canvas each neighborhood within City of Tampa limits and collect storm related debris from the curb.

To facilitate a smooth and efficient collection process, residents are asked to adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Collection: Crews will collect damaged household items, construction and vegetative-storm debris from the curb.
  • Preparation: Place damaged household items and construction debris separately from vegetative storm debris curbside and three feet away from obstructions.
  • Vegetative-Debris: Place vegetative storm debris curbside in a pile or in a non-city-issued garbage container or yard waste paper bag. Vegetative storm debris includes shrubs, palm fronds, tree limbs, grass, leaves, twigs, and branches.

Residents and businesses are encouraged to take advantage of the McKay Bay Transfer Station for disposal of Hurricane related debris. Residential Solid Waste account holders, residing within City of Tampa limits may dispose of selected accepted items at no additional charge.

The McKay Bay Transfer Station will return to the following normal operating hours beginning Saturday, September 28, 2024.

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Wednesday and Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Customers are encouraged to download the Tampa Trash and Recycling app on the Apple and Google Play Stores to receive real-time updates on service schedules.
