Charlotte County is a low-lying county and has experienced frequent, heavy rainfall in many areas in the past week. The ground is saturated and many swales still have standing water (as is normal by design to allow water to percolate into the ground rather than flow into waterways). Any significant rainfall in the coming days could produce localized flooding, road closures and potential property impacts.

Residents who live in low-lying areas should prepare for potential rainfall impacts by ensuring any drainage systems are clear of debris.

Motorists should avoid driving on flooded roads. Turn around, don't drown.

Do not allow children to play in stormwater. Stormwater could contain unhealthy pollutants, fire ants, snakes and other dangerous animals and insects.

Residents and business owners should inspect their property for debris and store any objects that may become airborne. Locate storm shutters in case you need to cover windows and doors.

Check your generator to ensure it starts and has fuel. Remember, never use a generator indoors.
