Pep Rally Kicks Off Homecoming Week

(BOWIE, Md.) - Bowie State University kicked off its highly anticipated Homecoming week on Monday with a high-energy Pep Rally that celebrated school pride and tradition.

The event featured performances from the university's Symphony of Soul band, led by Billy Bennett, and the Golden Girls cheerleaders. With lively contributions from student organizations like the Golden Curves and an electrifying appearance by DMV-raised artist Shy Glizzy, the rally set the tone for a week of festivities celebrating Bowie State's rich legacy.

"The band was great, and the wide range of acts were fun," said Senior Class President Khaleah Moon Brinson. "I love how everyone was engaged and high energy. As a student leader, it was a great opportunity to be immersed in the culture. I see it in the new light this year because I have a newfound sense of pride."

Homecoming is a tradition across HBCUs, and Bowie State's rally reinforced the importance of community and culture. As the week continues, students, alumni, and faculty are gearing up for more celebrations that honor the university's legacy. 

The Homecoming festivities will continue with the Homecoming Paradeon Saturday, October 19, where singer, actress, and TV personality Trina Braxton will serve as the Grand Marshal. Later that day, at 1 p.m., the Bulldogs will face off against Bluefield State University in a crucial football game. The university will also activate a public safety best practiceto have all guests register for Homecoming Day and Homecoming Week events. All Homecoming Day attendees must register by Friday, October 18, or have game ticketsto access the campus.
