Protect Yourself and Your Family From Heat and Sun

  • Drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol. Beverages with electrolytes can also help protect against heat stress.
  • Apply sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) every two hours and take regular breaks in the shade/out of the sun.
  • Wear lightweight, loose-fitting, and light-colored clothing.
  • Cool down your home early - close curtains, keep electric lights down, use fans, and avoid using appliances that generate heat.
  • Take a cool shower or use cool damp clothes to cool yourself down.

Protect Your Pets From Heat and Sun

  • Limit exercise or exercise early. Walks in the shade or on dirt and grass will help to avoid burning your pet's paws.
  • Never leave your pet in a vehicle.
  • Make sure your pet has plenty of cool water.
  • If your pet is outside, make sure shade and water are always available.
  • Apply cool damp towels to your pet's body to cool them down (ears, foot pads, belly, and inner thighs).
