HARRISON, Ark.- Buffalo National River will close the Steel Creek Area starting Monday August 12th, 2024, to accommodate further construction to the Steel Creek Water line. This closure includes the Steel Creek Road, Steel Creek Campground, and the Steel Creek river access. Trails that lead to the Steel Creek area will remain open, such as the Buffalo River Trail.

National Park Service staff are completing a full replacement of the waterline that supplies the Steel Creek area with water. "Safety of the work crew and our visitors is our number one priority," said Jared James, Acting Chief of Facilities for Buffalo National River. "As the complexity of this project has grown, the need for additional safety measures has increased. This closure will maximize our ability to keep everyone safe."

The work is projected to last through the month of August 2024. Current conditions of the area can be found at https://www.nps.gov/buff/planyourvisit/conditions.htm.
