Billington Structuresrecently participated in the Barnsley Apprenticeship Live eventwhere we had the opportunity to talk to students about potential career paths in the steel and wider engineering industries. The event was part of an ongoing initiative to promote our apprenticeship programme, offering students a hands-on insight into the world of manufacturing and engineering.

This event is part of Barnsley Council'songoing partnership with theSouth Yorkshire Careers Hub.The initiative aims to raise awareness of apprenticeships with leading employers in the local area while providing an overview of the technical skills required in the workplace.

More than 470 young people and their parents attended the event. Their feedback highlighted the valuable insights they gained from talking to Billington Structures and other participating local companies. The students not only showed an interest in our apprenticeship programme but also in the steel and wider engineering industries. Three of our current welding and steel fabricationapprentices - Jake Ellis, Corey Sykes and Ben Watson - were on hand to give the students a first-hand account of their personal experiences. They spoke about their apprenticeships at Billington Structures and gave insights into what it takes to become a successful apprentice. Their stories offered a realistic and encouraging insight into the opportunities available in our industry.

Helen Valentin, Enterprise Coordinator for Barnsley Council, reflected on the event's success and Billington Structures involvement: "A huge thank you for attending the first Barnsley Apprenticeship Live event. We appreciate your time at the event, which ensured its success. I also spoke to a parent and her son who said they were 'blown away' by the Billington team and the information they shared."

Claire Upperdine, Associate Director - HR for Billington Holdings, emphasised the significance of attending these career days:"Attending events like this is crucial for guiding students towards fulfilling career paths. It's an opportunity to connect directly with the next generation of skilled professionals and demonstrate the tangible benefits of an apprenticeship."
