PSC Celebrates Florida Lineworker Appreciation Day

TALLAHASSEE - Today is Florida Lineworker Appreciation Day, and the Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) is celebrating these hard-working men and women who deserve recognition and respect for their vital contributions to our communities.

"Hurricane season is far from over, and Florida has already weathered a Category 1 hurricane, as well as several tornadoes," said PSC Chairman Mike La Rosa. "With every weather event, Florida's lineworkers are ready to respond before the storm strikes. These first responders return power to homes and businesses quickly and efficiently to lessen the storm's impact on lives and livelihoods."

Since electricity began powering our lives, appreciation for essential lineworkers has been recognized. In 1937, the movie Slim was dedicated to linemen. "But behind all this [electric power] is an army of men whose skill and daring have made this great power a reality. And it is to them we dedicate this picture. The linemen."

As electricity use has evolved over the decades, lineworkers have become even more highly "skilled and daring," and their importance is even more appreciated. So, today and everyday, join the Florida PSC to #ThankALineman for maintaining Florida's almost 100,000 miles of local distribution lines.

In 2012, the Florida House of Representatives created Lineworker Appreciation Day, honoring the thousands of workers risking their lives daily to ensure the delivery of reliable electric service throughout the state.
