Office of Title IX expands support for students, adopts new name

Marquette's Office of Title IX is expanding its support for students under a new name, the Office of Title IX and Student Civil Rights Compliance.

Starting Thursday, Aug. 1, the Office of Title IX and Student Civil Rights Compliance will handle all reports of discrimination based on actual or perceived protected characteristics involving students, in addition to sex discrimination for students, faculty and staff.

When students are involved, the Office of Title IX and Student Civil Rights Compliance will now handle all reports of discrimination based on age, color, disability (physical or mental), gender expression, gender identity, marital status, military status, national origin, predisposing genetic characteristic, pregnancy or related conditions, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, and shared ancestry.

The Office of Human Resources will address all prohibited conduct that is not sex discrimination when both the complainant and respondent are employees.

Everyone on Marquette's campus shares responsibility for maintaining this environment by following university policies, including the Marquette University Sexual Harassment, Discrimination and Sexual Misconduct policy, and exemplifying respect for others as communicated through our Statement on Human Dignity and Diversity.

To report an incident of sexual harassment (including sexual assault, dating and domestic violence, and stalking), sex discrimination involving a Marquette University student, faculty member, staff member or visitor, or discrimination based on protected characteristics for students, contact the Title IX coordinator or any of the deputy Title IX coordinators, whose information can be found on the Title IX webpage. Additionally, all Marquette employees who are not designated as "confidential resources" under the policy are mandatory reporter employees responsible for promptly sharing reports of sexual harassment or sex discrimination with the Title IX Coordinator.

All victims are entitled to resources and other support from the university regardless of whether they wish to file a formal complaint with the Office of Title IX and Student Civil Rights Compliance.
