Dublin City Council launches very first ‘Car Share Day’

Dublin City Council would like to announce the launch of its very first 'Car Share Day'.

This new initiative will be celebrated annually on 24th July and its objective is to increase both awareness of and the number of, car share users in Dublin. This day serves as a reminder that adopting shared mobility services is a vital step towards a greener and more sustainable future.

Speaking at the launch of 'Car Share Day' at the CHQ, the Lord Mayor of Dublin James Geoghegan said, "the running of a family car can cost up to €10,000 a year, and using a Car Share provider instead of owning a car or a second car can result in significant savings being made. 'Car Share Day' is a good way of highlighting alternative options for individuals and families where we know that almost 60% of car journeys are 15 minutes or less."

This event was mutually organised by Dublin City Council's Road Safety and Micro Mobility team and supported by the car share operators in Dublin City including GoCar, Yuko, EM (Enterprise Mobility), DriveYou and Hertz. Along with the car share operators, this event included a number of state bodies and stakeholders such as Councillors and officers of the other Dublin County Councils, DoT, NTA, TII, Dublin Bus, RSA, dublinbikes, Bleeper and Moby, representatives from Dublin Chamber, Dublin Town and many more.

A panel discussion among the five existing car share operators in Dublin-GoCar, Yuko, EM (Enterprise Mobility), DriveYou, and Hertz-provided insights into their services and user experiences. They discussed the significance of 'Car Share Day' in raising awareness and promoting car sharing as a shared mobility option. The panel discussion offered a complete overview of car share operator's function as a shared mobility, offering customers flexible mobility choices that suit a range of lifestyles and budgets.

As the world moves toward a more sustainable and greener future, car rental businesses are playing a crucial role in this global effort. Increasing the popularity of car rental services is essential for achieving an environmentally friendly and sustainable city. There has never been a better time to be a shared mobility user in Dublin and around Ireland with multiple car sharing providers now providing different car sharing options.
