TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Lane Closures on St. Roch Avenue at N. Villere Street

NEW ORLEANS - The City of New Orleans today announced that starting 7 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 26 through Tuesday, Sept. 3, Department of Public Works (DPW) construction contractor Command Construction Industries, LLC will begin excavation of the road and installing road base as well as the 5" binder course on N. Villere Street. This work will require temporary lane closures of North-bound/Lake-bound lanes of St. Roch Avenue at N. Villere Street. During this time, sections of the North-bound parking lane will also be closed.

Signage and traffic control measures, such as barrels and fencing, will be onsite to direct drivers and pedestrians. Residents are asked to move all vehicles off the street before Monday, Aug. 26 and to adhere to no parking signage on the streets. Vehicles parked in these zones will be ticketed and towed. This work is expected to be completed by the end of the day on Tuesday, Sept. 3, unless another notice is issued extending the closure.

This temporary disruption of services is part of the $18.5 million St. Roch Drainage Upgrades joint infrastructure project with DPW and Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans.

Once complete, residents will experience an overall improved quality of life as the project will improve subsurface drainage capacity between local streets and trunk lines and install green infrastructure, such as retention/detention basins and bioswales. This work is part of the FEMA funded Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP)'s Leveraged Gray/Green Infrastructure projects and is scheduled to be completed in December 2024.
