Geisinger Bloomsburg Hospital receives national recognition for Environmental Services Department of the Year

DANVILLE, Pa. - The Association for the Health Care Environment announced recently that the Environmental Services (EVS) Department at Geisinger Bloomsburg Hospital has been honored as Environmental Services Department of the Year among U.S. teams operating in facilities of similar size.

"The EVS team at Geisinger Bloomsburg Hospital has been doing tremendous work for years," explained Michael Brown, director of hospitality services. "Last year, they came in second place for the department of the year award. Receiving the award this year solidifies their resilience. Their work every day is the cornerstone of our department and continues to help provide patients with the best possible outcomes. The credit for this recognition truly represents all Geisinger Bloomsburg Hospital EVS frontline technicians."

Some of the areas that made a particular impact on the Association for the Health Care Environment are the Geisinger EVS team's attention to continued best practices in discharge turnaround times, automated communication through TigerConnect and implementation of quality improvement initiatives based on the Hospital-Qualified Patient Experience of Care survey.

The national recognition is presented for significant contributions to overall patient experience and achieving a health care organization's mission. It denotes outstanding achievements of forward-looking EVS departments in maintaining high performance levels in cleaning, disinfecting, infection prevention, environmental sustainability and stewardship, technology use, patient satisfaction, education and training in critical areas.

The honor is bestowed yearly on one facility in each of three categories: 1 to 249 beds, 250 to 499 beds and 500-plus beds. Geisinger Bloomsburg Hospital received the award this year for the 1 to 249 bed category.
