Construction Begins On Franklin And Karcher Intersection Roundabout

The intersection of North Franklin Boulevard and East Karcher Road will be under construction as crews begin work on a new roundabout. The Idaho Transportation Department and Local Highway Technical Assistance Council will manage the project.

Franklin Boulevard has been designated as a critical freight corridor for the area and serves many industrial and commercial businesses. Traffic studies show a roundabout is needed to alleviate traffic congestion at the intersection and the new roundabout has been designed to accommodate commercial freight traffic. The inside section of the roundabout includes a truck apron with a flat slope and low height, allowing large vehicles and trucks with trailers to drive on it.

Utility work has started in the area in preparation for the roundabout construction. Drivers can anticipate intermittent lane restrictions and flaggers between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily. Expected traffic impacts include lane restrictions and potentially partial and full closures.

Drivers are encouraged to use Northside Boulevard during construction. The construction will be phased to minimize disruption for drivers. The city will provide updates on closure through social media channels and the project website cityofnampa.us/projects.

This project is anticipated to be finished by the end of November and will provide enhanced pedestrian crossings, street lighting to illuminate the roundabout and crossings, as well as improved traffic flow.

Local access to residential property and businesses within the project location will be available throughout the project. If you have additional questions, please call (208) 465-2221 or email [email protected].
