No Show Nick LaLota Is Hiding from Suffolk County Voters

Today, new reporting in New York Playbook revealed one (of many) reasons for Nick LaLota's increasing vulnerability - the Republican freshman has held no open, in-person town halls and then went on to lie about it on Twitter.

In addition to avoiding real interactions with Suffolk County voters, LaLota doesn't even live in New York's First Congressional District - and recently said his plans to move into the district were "on hold."

DCCC Spokesperson Ellie Dougherty:
"Nick LaLota is increasingly vulnerable, and for good reason - he's been ignoring Suffolk County voters. No matter how hard he tries, 'No Show Nick' won't be able to hide his extreme record of restricting reproductive freedom, playing politics with the border, and failing to lower costs for Long Islanders in November."

KEY POINTS:

  • When is a town hall not a town hall? Democratic challenger John Avlon is pushing back on Rep. Nick LaLota's claim that he DID hold town halls, arguing that phone calls and private business tours don't count.

  • Avlon started the tiff last month, pledging to hold 12 in-person town halls in his first year, unlike LaLota, who he said has held zero.

  • LaLota's campaign fired back on X that he'd held 14, actually, and provided a map with the locations across the east end of Long Island.

  • But the list included four telephone town halls, and 10 meetings with private groups, such as the Stony Brook University Political Science Society, or a meet-and-greet with defense contractor TTM Technologies.
