Hoyer Statement on July Jobs Report

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement today on the July jobs report

"The jobs report released today marks 42 months of consecutive job growth during the Biden-Harris Administration. After the prior administration oversaw the hemorrhaging of nine million jobs in its final year in office, the American economy has experienced a historic 15.8 million jobs created under the Biden-Harris Administration. In addition to this impressive record, our economy received further good news in July with a 2.8% increase in GDP in the second quarter of this year, exceeding economists' expectations - and Republicans' fear-mongering about an imminent recession.

"While the historic pace of job growth slowed somewhat in July with 114,000 jobs created, our economy continues to strengthen as signs of inflation ease. For the first time in four years, U.S. consumer prices dropped this June, bringing much-needed relief to American families. Democrats are dedicated to maintaining this positive trend and are fighting to reduce everyday costs for Americans.

"Despite this encouraging economic progress, many hard-working Americans are still facing challenges. That's why Democrats remain committed to lowering the cost of health care, prescription drugs, energy, internet, and other essentials even further. We enacted our historic Investing in America agenda last Congress to ensure that every American can thrive in this economy. As Vice President Harris said to the American Federation of Teachers last month, 'In our vision of the future, we see a place where every person has the opportunity not just to get by but to get ahead - a future where no child has to grow up in poverty, where every senior can retire with dignity, and where every worker has the freedom to join a union.' We made tremendous progress to deliver on that vision last Congress, and we will continue working to build that better future in the weeks, months, and years to come."
