Hackney's new 'Community 1 Stop' is launched by Hackney's Improving Outcomes for Black Children and Young People Accountability Board, community charity PERM Inc. and Hackney Libraries. The monthly drop-in is an opportunity for children, young people and families to speak with experienced youth workers and education professionals about the help and advice available from Hackney Council and other voluntary organisations within the borough around education, mental health, the police and any other areas they have need for support or signposting.

The monthly drop-in takes place on the first Saturday of each month and includes a 3pm 'Hot Topic presentation and Q&A session' to provide useful information on a range of issues relevant to parents, carers and their children; including transition to secondary school, school exclusions, how to select the right school for your child along with areas around attainment and progress.

The first Hackney Community 1 Stop will be held in Dalston Library on Saturday 3rd August from 2.30pm to 4.30pm. There is no need to book, just turn up. Discover more here.

Hackney is a fantastic borough to live in and our children are amongst the best in the world. Sadly, many of our school children are failing and not achieving their full potential academically and we want to support them. The Accountability Board was set up to improve the outcomes of young Black boys in Hackney but the brief has moved to support Black Children and Young People because there is a widening gap in the attainment of Black girls who academically have been falling behind in comparison to Black boys and their white counterparts.

PERM Inc. works within Hackney schools and with parents, carers and young people, offering them mentoring, coaching and experience. We exist to support all Hackney children, and their schools and families, to ensure they are Permanently Included in Education. The early intervention strategies we have developed over the tears ensure the children have a positive educational experience that starts in school and where possible ends in the boardroom.

The future of Hackney's children is a top priority for the council. We know the challenges some of our borough's school children face as they navigate their years in education, so this is a fantastic initiative, which aims to supplement the hard work and dedication of our borough's families and teachers. The Community 1 Stop offers an extra boost to help children and families who need advice, advocacy and signposting. It's vital that all our children get the support they need to help them achieve their goals and set them up for success.
