by L.A. Area Chamber

LOS ANGELES, CA - AUGUST 23, 2024 - The Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce released a statement regarding Assemblymember Buffy Wicks' announcement of a groundbreaking agreement among California, major tech companies, and California journalists.

Assemblymember Wicks announced a first-in-the-nation partnership involving the State of California, news publishers, major tech companies, and philanthropic organizations. The partnership includes two multi-year initiatives to provide ongoing financial support to newsrooms across the state and launch a National AI Accelerator. These initiatives will deliver nearly $250 million in public and private funding over the next five years, with a significant portion going to newsrooms. The goal is to distribute $100 million in the first year to jump-start these efforts, with the potential for additional funding in subsequent years.

"The L.A. Area Chamber applauds Assemblymember Wicks and thanks her for creating this agreement. We fully support this partnership and are proud to see the State of California collaborate with various groups to achieve a positive outcome," stated Maria S. Salinas, President & CEO of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce.
