Andrews FCU Funds Lactation Room to Support Mothers

Andrews Federal Credit Union showed its ongoing commitment to supporting working parents through the funding of a lactation room initiative at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.

The credit union provided funding to update and enhance a space intended to be
used for all parents in need of a space to pump milk for their babies.

While many working mothers decide to continue breastfeeding once they return to work from
maternity leave, research shows that 60 percent of mothers do not have a space to pump at
work other than a bathroom.

According to Andrews Federal Chief Operating Officer Damita Robinson, providing resources
for this space is well-aligned with Andrews Federal's commitment to supporting working
families. "We continually strive to show our appreciation for the sacrifices of our military families,
whether by providing a respite space for nursing mothers or offering resources for morale and
welfare to service members," Robinson said.

The credit union continues to seek opportunities to support working families, including through a
college scholarship and summer camp award program that provided more than $55,000 in
funding to support working families and their educational goals. The credit union also provides
employees with childcare subsidies to decrease the impact of the high costs of daycare and
afterschool programs. "Working families provide the backbone of our economy," Robinson said.
"When we support working families, we give parents, children, and their communities additional
resources needed to thrive and reach their goals."
