DENVER - Dec. 18, 2024 - The holiday season is here, and Denver International Airport (DEN) is prepared for a busy end-of-year holiday travel period.
From Thursday Dec. 19, 2024, through Sunday, Dec. 29, more than 811,00 passengers are estimated to travel through DEN's TSA checkpoints, a 7.95 percent increase over actual screening volume from the same period in 2023. DEN anticipates the busiest days during this period will be Dec. 20 and Dec. 27, with an estimated 83,307 passengers passing through security on Friday, Dec. 27.
For comparison, here are the busiest travel days so far in 2024:
DEN will showcase piano performances in the arrivals area of the Great Hall through Dec. 22 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Look for holiday carolers roaming the concourses through Dec. 23 from 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. and/or 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. (varies by day).
Get into the holiday spirit and visit "Santa's Layover Lounge," the world's first airport holiday pop-up bar. Located on Concourse B, the lounge features hand-crafted holiday cocktails, a hot chocolate bar and a holiday-themed food menu. Familiar holiday characters can be found in every corner, with surprise appearances by the one and only Santa Claus. The pop-up experience will be open until Jan. 6, 2025 from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
Passengers are encouraged to arrive inside the airport at least two hours in advance of their boarding time to ensure they have plenty of time to check bags, travel through security and arrive at their gate. There is the potential for longer security lines, especially during peak times, which are 3 a.m. to 4:30 a.m., 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Here are some travel tips for passengers traveling through DEN over the end-of-year travel period:
TSA

South Security Checkpoint (located on Level 5 at the South end of the Terminal): Primary checkpoint for standard screening, open 3 a.m. to 1 a.m. daily
TSA no longer operates Bridge Security on a regular basis. Screening equipment remains in place in case there is an urgent need to use the checkpoint, but the lanes are not staffed, and the checkpoint is no longer operational. A-Bridge and Ansbacher Hall remains open for arriving passengers and employees accessing the Airport Office Building between the hours of 4 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday - Thursday and access all day, Friday - Sunday.
