The Department of Elections Begins Mailing Voter Information Pamphlets for the November 5 Election

SAN FRANCISCO, Thursday, September 26, 2024 - This week, the Department of Elections will commence the mailing of the November 5 Voter Information Pamphlet (VIP) to hundreds of thousands of local voters. The November VIP will also be available in PDF, HTML, and MP3 formats through the Election Readiness Toolkit at sfelections.gov. Voters may also request the VIP in large print, CD audio, USB, or National Library Service cartridge formats.
"As the November 5 election approaches, the Department of Elections is committed to providing voters with the information they need to make informed decisions," said Director John Arntz. "We urge all voters to utilize official election resources to ensure that the information they receive is accurate and reliable. Engaging with materials from trusted sources, such as our Department's Voter Information Pamphlet and the California Secretary of State's Voter Information Guide, will help voters cast their votes with confidence."
In addition to providing details about candidates and measures, the VIP offers comprehensive information on voting options, key election dates, accessible and multilingual resources, and information on how to mark a ranked-choice voting (RCV) contest and how votes are counted in such contests. Furthermore, the VIP includes a dedicated page on election results that outlines the schedule and timelines for releasing preliminary and final results. Through this page, the Department has informed the public that, due to anticipated high voter turnout and a multi-card ballot, the Department may require the full 30 days allowed by law to count all ballots and release the final election results. Lastly, each VIP includes a sample ballot to assist voters in preparing to mark their official ballots.
Voters wishing to opt out of receiving a paper VIP and switch to digital delivery for future elections can do so by logging into the Voter Portal at sfelections.gov/voterportal and navigating to the "Opt for Online Voter Information Pamphlets" tab.
