The Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Unit of the Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) conducted a joint CBRN exercise at the Port of Colombo on Tuesday, November 19 to enhance the knowledge and awareness of participants in the on-going Subject Matter Expert Exchange (SMEE) program involving the Montana National Guard, the United States Coast Guard (District 13) and the Sri Lanka Air Force, the SLN media reports.
Officials from the Disaster Management Centre, Marine Environment Protection Authority, Sri Lanka Ports Authority, Airport Aviation Services (SL), Central Environmental Authority and Ministry of Health were also among the participants, it further says.
According to the statement, the exercise was jointly conducted by the SLN CBRN Team and the Port Fire Service. The SLN has strategically established specialized CBRN units comprising highly trained first responders, capable of rapidly and effectively addressing CBRN incidents. These units are operational across all major harbours including Colombo, Galle, Hambantota, Trincomalee and Kankesanthurai (KKS).
