That's why we created our strategic energy management (SEM) program. Using the proven practices our SEM team has developed, we can drive down the cost of innovation while enabling more sustainable communications networks.

It should also be noted that Adtran's SEM program isn't just a response to the growing global demand for sustainable practices. It's also a strategic investment that yields tangible financial benefits. Through SEM, we're driving down the cost of innovation, reducing our overheads and enhancing our resilience against energy price fluctuations.

Proven practices

As we covered in an earlier blog, our SEM program has already yielded significant savings. By implementing simple yet effective policies at Adtran's Huntsville campus and participating in various energy management schemes, our multi-award-winning team has avoided nearly 14 million dollars in energy costs. As we apply SEM on an international scale, we will use the same strategies and guidelines to foster continuous and self-sustaining energy management improvements. Our goal is ambitious yet attainable: a 10% reduction in energy usage across our portfolio by 2030, using 2022 as our baseline year.

• Optimizing resources: By consolidating buildings, optimizing HVAC usage with timers and sensors and making modifications such as covering unused rack spaces, we can improve energy efficiency and save money.
