City to Host Open House for Daffin Park Signature Playground Concept
SAVANNAH - The City of Savannah's Recreation and Leisure Department invites residents to an open house on Thursday, Nov. 21 to unveil the concept of the Daffin Park Signature Playground.
The new signature playground will be a milestone project of the City's Recreation Re-Imagined initiative. The Recreation Re-Imagined initiative focuses on re-thinking how recreation is delivered in Savannah with an emphasis on enriching the lives of residents and guests by providing high-quality recreation experiences.
Since 2023, the City has revitalized over 25% of the recreation spaces, including resurfacing 33 athletic courts, upgrading 24 parks and playgrounds, renovating three swimming pools, and installing nine new splash pads. Additionally, 11 community centers have been enhanced under the initiative.
The Daffin Park Signature Playground will be the City's first large-scale, multi-zone, inclusive playground. The layout and equipment will promote physical activity through play and allow people of all abilities to participate fully. The playground will include fully ADA compliant surfacing that offers tactile and visual experiences for kids of all abilities.
Some features of the new playground will include an industry first, fully inclusive tower that provides unprecedented playability, and integrated musical components for children to enjoy harmonious audible stimulation. The playground will feature spaces for all ages from six months to 12-years-old.
Residents will be able to view the current design under consideration and talk with Recreation and Leisure staff about the project.
Everyone interested in the project is encouraged to drop in at your leisure between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. and stay as long as you wish. Popcorn and light refreshments will be available for children in attendance. The open house will be held in Daffin Park on the northwest corner of the park near Waters Ave.
