Corpus Christi Police Department Committed to Public Safety

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX - The Corpus Christi Police Department (CCPD) continued to enhance public safety with significant improvements and expansions in Fiscal Year 2024. The department saw important equipment upgrades and staff growth to better serve the community.

Significant equipment investments:

  • $150,000 in building maintenance improvements
  • Generator at Flour Bluff substation $150,000
  • $100,000 in Forensics Laboratory equipment
  • Expanded drone program to include 26 drones, $50,000
  • Added a mental support dog to the K9 unit
  • Bear Kat - SWAT armored vehicle
  • Purchase of 36 police vehicles

Staffing increases:

  • 55 Police Officer positions added over the past four years, bringing the total uniform police force to 501
  • The 83rd Corpus Christi Police Academy graduated 27 cadets in May 2024.
  • The 84th Corpus Christi Police Academy began July 15, 2024, with 32 cadets.
  • The 85th Corpus Christi Police Academy will begin July 2025 for 25 cadets.

Additional Police facilities:

  • New Police Training Academy
  • The design phase of Far South and Northwest substations has been completed.

The new Corpus Christi Police Academy ribbon cutting is scheduled for November 7. It represents the first custom-built Police Academy for the City of Corpus Christi and quadruples the space of the current academy. The new Academy will include an outdoor track, fitness center, defensive tactics area, men's and women's locker rooms, auditorium, and two classrooms to offer regional training opportunities.
