NCCU Nursing Professor Advocates for Mental Health at White House Convening

Lily Chen, a lecturer in the North Carolina Central University (NCCU) Department of Nursing, recently joined a White House event to tackle mental health challenges facing Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders (AANHPI).

The White House AANHPI Mental Health Convening brought together top officials and community leaders to discuss key issues like combating AANHPI hate, improving access to mental health services such as the 988 Crisis hotline and ensuring language justice in care.

As executive director of the UCA WAVES Youth Mental Health Collaborative, Chen stressed the importance of parental support and mental health awareness, particularly among older Chinese immigrants. She also advocated for community-driven solutions and research to empower AANHPI communities.
