Chicago Department of Housing Approves Ordinance for Sale and Transfer of Properties in Chicago’s North Lawndale Neighborhood

The Chicago Department of Housing (DOH) has passed an ordinance that will facilitate the sale of the property located at 1251 S Sawyer Ave, along with two vacant parcels located at 1214-1232 S Kedzie Ave and 1242-1256 S Kedzie Ave, to the Chicago House & Social Service Agency (CHASSA). The ordinance also permits the transfer of the Regulatory Agreement and Land Use Restriction Agreement (LURA) to CHASSA.

Sawyer Properties, which also goes by Phoenix House Apartments, is a 32-unit studio apartment building that maintains affordability at 50% of the Area Median Income (AMI) for vulnerable populations affected by AIDS/HIV. The sale plays a critical role in continuing stable and affordable housing solutions to those in need.
