Hospital Adds Third Gastroenterology Suite

ARLINGTON, Texas - Construction of a third gastroenterology (GI) suite is complete at Texas Health Hospital Frisco to accommodate an increasing demand for digestive health services.

"We are growing to meet the evolving health and well-being needs of Frisco and surrounding communities," said Brett Lee, president of Texas Health Frisco. "We have experienced continued demand for gastroenterology services."

The hospital handles about 200 endoscopies a month. Endoscopies are used to screen for digestive diseases and conditions such as cancers, ulcers and Barrett's esophagus.

The demand for services grew alongside Frisco's tremendous population growth, Lee said.Frisco is described as one of the fastest-growing cities in Texas and the United States. The city's population was about 33,700 in 2000. It grew to 200,509 by the 2020 U.S. Census and is expected to continue growing.

Texas Health Frisco shares its campus with UT Southwestern physicians and specialists. Collaboration between the two health systems is helping bring greater access to expert medical care for patients and families living in cities and communities north of Dallas.

"Our regional growth is taking place as more patients recognize they need to be proactive about health exams," said Hendrikus "Dutch" Vanderveldt, M.D., MBA, FASGE, a gastroenterologist on the medical staff at Texas Health Frisco. "We are working to connect patients to medical services closer to their homes."

This is just the latest expansion for the hospital. In 2021, two years after opening its doors to patients, Texas Health Frisco began expanding to meet the growing needs of patients in Collin and Denton counties. The $25 million project included building out the sixth floor, with an additional 30 medical/surgical beds and two operating suites. That project was completed in 2023.

Last month, Texas Health Frisco earned The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval® and the American Heart Association's Heart-Check mark for Acute Heart Attack Ready certification.
