Month-long work to begin on County Road 501

The La Plata County Road & Bridge department will conduct a mill and overlay (resurfacing) project on County Road 501 near Vallecito Reservoir from Tuesday, Sept. 3 through approximately Wed., Sept. 25

The project will involve resurfacing 3.2 miles of paved road, from approximately mile marker 13 at C.R. 501A (the southern access for Vallecito dam) to mile marker 16.2 north of the marina at Vallecito where new paving ended last year. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane with a pilot car for much of the work.

Regular working hours will be from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Delays of up to 20 minutes should be anticipated; however, every attempt will be made to minimize traffic delays during peak morning and afternoon commuting hours. Motorists are encouraged to allow a little extra travel time for their commute and to drive with caution through the work zone, for their own safety and the safety of the work crews.
