Preparing for Heavy Rainfall on Friday, August 9, 2024 Due to Hurricane Debby

The latest weather forecast has the City of Auburn receiving 2-3 inches of rainfall beginning in the early morning hours of Friday, August 9, 2024 and lasting throughout the day.

The City of Auburn would like to remind our residents that it is always encouraged to be prepared for these extreme weather events, here is a list of things to keep in mind:

  • Test Residential Sump Pumps and provide backup power if possible.
  • Residents who have sewer backflow check valves should test and verify their valves move freely and are operable.
  • Localized flooding is expected - residents are reminded not to drive through open water in roadways. Please be aware the Owasco River will likely experience high flows due to areas in the watershed south of Auburn receiving even higher amounts of rainfall.
  • Residents can contact Sewer and Water Supervisor Tom Gabak with any sewer or storm water related issues. Phone: 315-604-6481
  • If a storm related emergency is encountered, residents should immediately call 911.
  • Residents are reminded to remain calm and patient as the City responds and offers assistance to alleviate any storm related damage.
