AI at Prosus – OLX case study

In our third case study on how Prosus leverages the power of AI, we are lifting the lid on the AI journey at our classifieds business, OLX. We highlight use cases focused on trust and safety, personalisation, and marketing, and describe the measurable impact of AI on the OLX business.

OLX is building leading marketplace ecosystems, enabled by tech, powered by trust, and loved by our customers. OLX is a fast-growing and profitable business, with topline growth of 27% in FY24, and trading profit improving more than three times to US$172m in the same year. Instrumental in this growth has been the early investment and adoption of Artificial Intelligence ('AI') and Machine Learning ('ML') capabilities.

OLX first formed a dedicated AI team in 2019 and has since deployed many use cases across every part of the customer journey, with more recent investment in GenAI significantly improving the user experience. AI is now embedded everywhere in OLX, from finance to product teams, and from marketing to customer support. The result has been tens of millions of dollars in incremental sales and cost savings every year. AI is also helping OLX to reimagine the future of ecommerce marketplaces, with OLX Magic creating a new buying experience based on a conversational interface.
