THE dominant, history-making story today is, of course, President Biden's announcement that he's no longer running for re-election. But in what would normally be the big story of the day, Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle is scheduled to testify before the House Judiciary Committee on Monday about the massive security failure surrounding President Trump's near-assassination.

I wonder if she'll fall back on the latest excuse and tell Congress they were stretched too thin with all the security demands and need more personnel. Only in Washington could catastrophic incompetence resulting in the near-death of someone you're in charge of protecting be cited as a reason for giving your department a budget increase.

We'll have a full update Tuesday on whatever her testimony tells us about the attempt against Trump's life. In the meantime, over the weekend we've gathered some of the most enlightening reading material about Cheatle's Secret Service, starting with this must-read piece shared by Julie Kelly on Substack, which also takes a look at Cheatle's previous controversies.

Cheatle has tried to shift blame away from the Secret Service and towards local law enforcement. But as Butler County District Attorney Richard Goldinger said, the Secret Service was in charge of security outside the venue. "The Secret Service ran the show," he said. "They had meetings the week prior. They designated who did what."

We're NOT saying the shooting was a set-up --- that's yet to be determined --- but if it were, it might have looked very much as it did. THE GATEWAY PUNDIT is reporting that the rally was being thought of as a "loose" security event (!), according to whistleblowers who contacted Missouri Rep. Josh Hawley's office. As Hawley observes, most of the security people there were not Secret Service. "DHS assigned unprepared and inexperienced personnel." Read his full letter to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, listing his many questions.

One new piece of information that should be humiliating to the Secret Service: Even though agents didn't have a drone that day to get an overhead visual of the rally area, the shooter DID! Several hours before the rally, he was using it at the location to scope things out. More details on that soon.

Finally, if "set-up" sounds too overtly conspiracy-theorist for some, listen to Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson, who says that "wittingly or unwittingly," President Trump was set up to die.

Pray for President Trump

Shots were fired at a Trump rally Saturday in Butler, Pennsylvania. Former President Trump grabbed his ear and dropped behind the podium. Secret Service agents rushed to cover him and helped him to his feet. He left clutching his right ear, which appeared bloodied, and fist-pumped to the crowd as he was taken to a waiting car to rush him to a hospital.
