Author and former BSC President returns to discuss new book on Native American education

Former Bismarck State College (BSC) president and now author, Dr. Larry C. Skogen, will be back on the college campus on Tuesday, Nov. 12, to discuss his latest work, "To Educate American Indians: Selected Writings from the National Educational Association's Department of Indian Education, 1900-1904." Tomi Cimarosti, Indian Education Director for Bismarck Public Schools, will guide the conversation, focusing on the book's historical significance and its exploration of Native American education policy and perspectives at the turn of the 20th Century.
Skogen served as president of BSC from 2007 to 2020. His career in higher education and as a historian has fueled his ongoing commitment to expanding historical narratives and education. His most recent book, "To Educate American Indians," compiles significant early writings from the National Educational Association's Department of Indian Education, offering rare insight into the era's educational discourse surrounding Native American communities.
The book discussion will be held at 6:30 p.m. (CST) in the Basin Auditorium, inside the BSC National Energy Center of Excellence, 1200 Schafer St., and is open to the public. Following the free event, attendees can purchase copies of the book and meet the author for a book signing.
