People are being invited to attend events to find out more about the dyslexia support available for anyone in Wiltshire.

The Wiltshire Council-run events are also an opportunity to find out more about Dyslexia Friendly Schools. The award is issued to schools or organisations that can demonstrate that they provide high quality education and/or practice for dyslexic individuals. Obtaining the Dyslexia Friendly Quality Mark provides a framework for schools to improve their understanding of dyslexia and literacy difficulties and to develop strategies that support the achievement and engagement of dyslexic learners. There are now 13 Dyslexia Friendly Schools in Wiltshire, with a further 15 schools across the county aiming to achieve this quality mark by 2025.

Wiltshire Council is holding three events in October for Dyslexia Awareness Month where people can find out more about dyslexia support.

  • Webinar for schools and professionals - 10 October, 4pm-5pm - people can join using the link, there is no need to register: join webinar
  • Webinar for parents and carers - 10 October, 6pm-7pm - people can join using the link, there is no need to register: join webinar
  • Drop-in event for parents, carers and professionals, and people affected by Dyslexia - 17 October, 10am-3pm at County Hall, Trowbridge - no need to register, just come along on the day.

Cllr Jane Davies, Cabinet Member for SEND, said: "These events are a great opportunity to find out about the wide range of dyslexia support available.

"The webinars are a convenient way for people to find out more from professionals in the field, while the drop in event is a coming together of key people who can provide support and information to those with dyslexia and others who want to support someone else. People can also find out about innovative technologies to aid people with dyslexia. Anyone is welcome to drop in and chat at a time that suits them.

"We welcome families and people of all ages to join this event, so we can work together to deepen understanding. People don't have to feel alone and we want them to know where they can find support and help."
