M-96 closures and detours in Springfield start Sunday

MARSHALL, Mich. -As part of the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) project to resurface 4.4 miles of M-96 in Augusta and Springfield, there will be nightly closures of M-96 and detours while crews pave M-96.

Traffic restrictions:
M-96 in Springfield will be closed while being repaved in three separate phases, with traffic restrictions on one segment at a time:

  • Armstrong Road to Hill Brady Road: The posted detour will be Armstrong Road, Denso Road, and Hill Brady Road.
  • Avenue A to Helmer Road: The posted detour will be Avenue A and Helmer Road.
  • Hill Brady Road to Avenue A: There will be one lane of M-96 open in each direction.

Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to directly and indirectly support 28 jobs.

This work will improve ride quality and safety for motorists and improved pedestrian access.
