Freedom House Announces Brian Tronic as New Director for Free Them All: The Fred Hiatt Program to Free Political Prisoners

WASHINGTON-Freedom House is pleased to announce that Brian Tronic will join the organization as the new director for Free Them All: The Fred Hiatt Program to Free Political Prisoners. In his role, Tronic will work to advance Freedom House's growing efforts to free human rights defenders, journalists, and prodemocracy activists unjustly imprisoned around the world.

"We are delighted that Brian is joining our team at this critical time as autocrats continue to imprison democracy defenders as a tool of their repression. Brian has dedicated much of his distinguished career to providing legal support and counsel to political prisoners facing extremely dire circumstances," said Nicole Bibbins Sedaca, interim president of Freedom House. "He is the ideal person to lead the Fred Hiatt Program as we advance efforts to realize our goal of freeing all unjustly detained political prisoners."

Tronic brings extensive experience to the role. He most recently served as counsel at Perseus Strategies, where he represented clients in a variety of cases involving international law, with a focus on political prisoners and human rights. He previously worked at the William J. Clinton Fellowship for Service in India, andhas served as the Crowley Fellow in International Human Rights at Fordham Law School, an assistant professor at Jindal Global Law School (India), and the supervising attorney and a teaching fellow at the International Women's Human Rights Clinic at the Georgetown Law Center.

As director of the Fred Hiatt Program, Tronic will lead Freedom House's efforts to secure the release of political prisoners, support their families, and promote democratic freedoms by raising awareness about authoritarian regimes that detain human rights defenders, journalists, and prodemocracy activists.

"It's a privilege to join Freedom House's talented team," said Tronic. "I look forward to building on the many successes the Fred Hiatt Program has already achieved as we continue to work tirelessly to support political prisoners and their families, highlight authoritarian abuses, and defend the rights of those that have been unjustly silenced."

Freedom House is a nonprofit, nonpartisan democracy organization that works to create a world where all are free. We inform the world about threats to freedom, mobilize global action, and support democracy's defenders.
