06/28/2024 OlyPD Weekly Update 6 13 to 6 26 24

Crime Map and Updates

Welcome to our crimemap. You can search by address, date range, case number, or specific crime type. The map includes serious felony crimes, vehicle prowls, thefts (except shoplifting), and arrests beginning in Nov. 2020. Click on icons for more detail. Addresses listed are rounded to the hundred block. For a complete list of case reports, visit olympiawa.gov/p2c.

Notable Trends

  • One arson reported over the last two weeks. The suspect set up Christmas lights throughout the rooms and put chemicals on the stove that he tried to light on fire.
  • Four assaults reported with one still an open investigation and one arrest. In one case the victim was attacked with a baseball bat and soda can. In the arrest, the victim was strangled multiple times before escaping. In the last case, the victim reported she had been previously strangled.
  • Six auto thefts reported for the two-week period. A motorcycle, 1997 Dodge Ram 1500, 2002 Honda Accord, 2006 Ford Escape, 2014 Ford Fusion and 2016 Kia Forte were all stolen. One vehicle was recovered, and one was an attempt only.
  • Two rapes reported with an arrest in one. The victim of one case did not provide details if she knew the suspect or not. The victim of the other case fled and flagged down someone driving by who called the police for her. Through joint investigation, Patrol Officers and Detectives identified and arrested the suspect.
  • One robbery reported. An acquaintance of the victim was mad at him for losing a backpack, punched him in the head and stole his lighter.
  • Fourteen vehicle prowls or vandalisms over the last two weeks. Some of the property stolen included a firearm, wallets, Air Pods, a purse, vehicle registration and tools. You are allowed to carry electronic versions of your registration. We recommend if you take a picture of it on your phone that you save it to a separate folder in your photos that gives you quick access to it if needed.

Other Items

  • Capital City PrideFest kicks off today, June 28, with a weekend full of events. You can check out their website for the schedules. There will be road closures along Capitol Way for the parade on Sunday, June 30. Closures start at 10 a.m. so please plan alternative routes or drive carefully through the area, following instructions of road closed signs or officers and volunteers doing traffic control.
  • We'll be in the Tumwater Independence Parade with a Patrol car and our volunteer car making an appearance. Come check us out! The parade starts at 11:00 a.m.
  • Reminder that the City of Olympia and other local cities have fireworks bans within the city limits. You can check out amazing fireworks displays at the Lacey Fireworks Spectacular on July 3 from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Rainier Vista Park, or the Tumwater Artesian Family Festival on July 4 at the Tumwater Valley Golf Club from 6 p.m. to 10:45 p.m.
  • I'll be out of the office part of next week so no weekly update again. I'll double up the following week. We hope that everyone has a happy and safe 4th of July. This week's picture is a little Bentley holiday fun from last year.
