#StanGrad: Aleesa Ponce Leaves Her Mark on the Stockton Campus

Aleesa Ponce is known for showing her dedication and getting involved at the Stockton Campus. She was a director for the Stockton Campus for Associated Students, Inc. (ASI), a Library student assistant and a Campus Recreation student assistant.

She said although there were challenges and setbacks along the way, she learned that success is achievable with dedication and determination.

A native of Stockton, Ponce chose to attend the Stockton Campus due to its proximity to her home.

"Knowing that my brother is also an alumnus of Stan State added to my confidence in the University's quality of education and support system," said Ponce. "This decision allowed me to balance my academic endeavors with family commitments effectively, contributing to my overall success and sense of belonging throughout my college experience."

Ponce is currently an administrative support assistant at the Stockton Campus Warrior Welcome Hub. Through her networking skills and passion for connecting with others, her impact in this role is being noticed.

"Aleesa's ability to exceed expectations and her genuine desire to contribute makes her a truly invaluable member of our community," said Rosa Gonzalez, from the Stockton Campus Library Services. "She consistently goes above and beyond in every role she undertakes, exemplifying a tireless work ethic and unwavering commitment to excellence."

Throughout her time here, Ponce said the most powerful lesson she's learned is the significance of resilience and adaptability. Through her experiences, she's been reminded to have faith in themselves and understand their potential.

"My involvement as an ASI director highlighted the transformative impact of individual advocacy," said Ponce. "This experience reinforced my belief in one voice's ability to initiate meaningful change and advocate for the collective interests of students."

With her bachelor's degree in business in hand, Ponce plans to utilize her knowledge and skills to contribute to the economic growth and development of Stockton and San Joaquin County.

She also has plans to be active in community initiatives and local organizations that address socioeconomic challenges and promote equitable access to education.

These experiences shaped me into the person I am today and made my college journey truly memorable."

Which faculty or staff member had the greatest impact on you, and why?

"Paul Gardley, my academic advisor, simplified the complicated academic roadmap, guided me through the correct classes and provided support even when minor obstacles arose. Isabel Vargas, my supervisor at the Library, consistently encouraged me to explore opportunities at both the Stockton and Turlock campuses, fostering personal and professional growth. Regarding staff, the welcoming environment created by all staff members at the Stockton Campus contributed significantly to my sense of belonging and success."

What advice would you give to current and future students?
