O’Dowd meets Road Safe NI

Infrastructure Minister John O'Dowd has met the chairman of Road Safe NI Charity, David Jackson.

Road Safe NI is a voluntary organisation that promotes safety on the roads, reaching out to local communities and vulnerable road users through its network of local committees.

Minister O'Dowd said:

"Sadly, 38 people have lost their lives on our roads this year. Behind that number, there is heartbreak and untold grief. Many of Road Safe NI's members know only too well how lives can be forever changed by the news no one ever wants, or expects, to receive. I welcomed the opportunity today to meet David and discuss our shared commitment to reducing death and serious injury on our roads."

The Minister added:

"One of the best ways to ensure safety on our roads and fulfil our long-term goal of eliminating death and serious injury by 2050, is by changing road user behaviour. Last month, I launched the digital campaign 'RoadWise Up', which challenges all of us to think about our own actions when we are out and about.

"We all have a personal responsibility to behave in a way that ensures that all road users get home safe and I thank Road Safe NI for the work they do in helping to communicate this vitally important message."
