FEMA Individual Assistance is available to renters, including students, as well as homeowners with uninsured losses from Hurricanes Milton or Helene.
FEMA awards may help pay for temporary housing. Renters may also qualify for an award under FEMA's Other Needs Assistance program for uninsured or underinsured essential personal property losses and other disaster-related expenses. These may include:
Homeowners and renters are encouraged to apply online at DisasterAssistance.gov, by using the FEMA App, or by visiting a Disaster Recovery Center. You may also apply by phone at 800-621-3362. Lines are open every day and help is available in most languages. If you use a relay service, captioned telephone or other service, give FEMA your number for that service. If you applied to FEMA after Hurricanes Debby or Helene and have additional damage from Hurricane Milton, you will need to apply separately for Milton and provide the dates of your most recent damage.
